Zonam Solvere (chromatic gamelan and saxophone quartet) 2002
Zonam Solvere:
from [Latin] zonam, a marriage girdle and solvere, to undo.
The underlying harmonies stem from two chords taken from a transcription of
a Bill Evans solo. The gamelan provides an underlying ostinato below the langourous
jazz-inflected harmonies of the saxophones, creating an atmosphere of relative
calm. Thanks to the Ensemble Multifoon for the inspiration.
